Shelter Outreach Initiative Project
Hope for the Homeless is beginning a new initiative that provides individuals with the opportunity to engage with local shelters either through interviews or through other supporting roles.
01
PURPOSE
Our goal is to uplift the voices of those living in or managing New Jersey homeless shelters. Through telling their stories and educating others on the struggles of those within this system, we can build a more empathetic community that is ready to advocate for change. We want to avoid triggering any traumatic experiences or taking advantage of those currently living in shelters, so we instead are focusing on collecting information from those who have served these shelters as volunteers or managers.
02
METHOD
Our organization members may decide which of the following roles they wish to take within this project:
1) Interviewing staff or volunteers at New Jersey homeless shelters
2) Editing and publishing content for @hopeforthehomelesscommunity on Instagram
3) Editing and publishing content for the Hope for the Homeless website
4) Researching policies or bills affecting New Jersey's homeless population
5) Emailing or contacting staff or volunteers at New Jersey homeless shelters
